“Is that… a chatty face?”
I love it when people decode my logos ‘correctly.’ When I watch my test subjects process the logo in real time, I get confirmation of whether the anchor theme has worked. It appears that I succeeded this time!
Perth, Australia, has a very supportive startup culture and the universities here provide an excellent environment for many students to bootstrap their product/service companies. ‘Startup Convo’ is curating the stories of successful entrepreneurs so that their experiences inspire people who are starting their own journeys now.
Power ON and Chats

The Startup Convo logo highlights ‘conversations’ and clearly links those chats to startups and innovation culture. The current version of the logo started as a logo with more visual elements and went through several iterations after taking feedback.

Clearly, the wavy meniscus of the fluid and the starry eyes are gone, and we now have a more stable and balanced logo.
Inspiration and Logo Logic

The inspirations for the Startup Convo logo are the PATHÉ! logo, the WhatsApp logo, Power ON icon and glassware in a chemistry laboratory. The ideas of conversations, startups, and experiments are drawn from them and are arranged neatly on the Startup Convo logo.

The most obvious iconography in the Startup Convo logo is a Power ON button. It represents startups and initiating something new. The round-bottom flask with a red liquid directly represents experiments. Iteration for innovation is the central theme for any startup. The entire logo is shaped like a speech bubble denoting conversations. Startup Convo is curating the interviews of entrepreneurs and so the motif fits right in. The red liquid in the round-bottom flask also looks like a talking, happy mouth. This emphasizes the ‘convo’ or ‘conversations’ of Startup Convo.
Logo and Logotype

In the ‘all-white’/negative version of the logo, we can retain the red highlight color of the “mouth.” This option appears good on dark background.

Linear and stacked lockup versions of the logo + logotype have been created for use in wider and narrower spaces on the website, social media, and merchandise. ‘Startup Convo’ is written using the Baloo Chettan 2 typeface with bold weight. This typeface reinforces the informal vibe of the name.
The website development of Startup Convo is in progress and once a critical mass of entrepreneur interviews is up, the site will go live.

Watch this space for future updates on the Startup Convo website. And, if you are a startup founder, Startup Convo might reach out to you to hear your story. Let’s talk business!
