Answer
Now tell me which one would you purchase for your DX frame?
I would love to add 35mm f/1.8 to my kit as my D40 lacks the autofocus motor and hence I lose on the fast speed of my 50mm f/1.8 lens.
Apart from that I’ll also achieve the distortion free focal length of 50mm on my APS-C crop using 35mm, where currently I’m getting 75mm using 50mm f/1.8.
Though the portraits and products come out good, I have to move back a bit to accommodate the subject into the frame when shooting indoors or shooting products.
Thanks for your comments, Urvesh. As always insightful 🙂
In India, 35mm costs 13K+ with warranty where as 50mm is almost 6K. So to make it financially viable, you will have to source from US. If purchased in US dollars, it comes to 10K+.
Yupp, that is the only reason I’m restraining from buying it. At that price range, we even have the option of Nikkor 40mm AF-S f/2.8 Micro. 😉
It offers almost the same focal length and also 1:1 macro capability.
Hm.. 40mm is 4K more than 35mm 🙂
One thing I agree with you is that with 50mm I find myself a little bit constrained with the framing. So I am seriously considering trading my 50mm for a 35mm .
