I graduated as an Electronics & Communication Engineer 25 years ago from MES College of Engineering, Kuttippuram. The iconic main building of the college, with its unique architecture, was constructed in front of our eyes. There are many sweet memories associated with student life and I have published some glimpses as cartoons — “The making of an engineer” — while at the college. The silver jubilee alumni reunion of the year 2000 batch is scheduled on 19 July 2025 and I designed an unsolicited logo for the event.
Heart Beats
The logo depicts the unique outline of the college building enclosing a beating heart. The name ‘Millennium Memories’ was chosen after an extensive debate on the WhatsApp group created for the event with approximately 250 members.
This logo animation video explains the thoughts behind the design. This video is created using Microsoft PowerPoint, employing ‘Morph’ transitions and animations.
Inspiration and Logo Logic
Apart from the iconic architecture of the college main building, a beating heart (movies with lovely A R Rahman songs like Kadhal Desam, Kadhalar Dhinam, Alai Payuthey… were from that era), and a camera icon were my inspirations.
Logo and Logotype
Linear lockup and stacked lockup versions of the logo + logotype are created to be used in narrower and wider spaces on website, social media, and merchandise. “Millennium” is written using Nunito Sans typeface with Black weight and “memories” is written using Handsome Pro typeface with Extra Bold weight.
Feedback from my friends
I received many positive comments on the WhatsApp group and my friends loved the logo. I’m unsure whether my logo will be adopted for the event as the organizers have already published one in the event announcement posters. Let’s see!
