‘Wordle’ Game: Secret Tips and Tricks
Just like you, I also came to know about the ‘Wordle’ game during the pandemic shutdown in 2021, when this word game was still with the original publisher, the brilliant software programmer, Josh Wardle. The New York Times acquired the game in 2022 and ‘Wordle’ is now available here. My kids and I play this game everyday and this has become a daily family ritual!
Just by playing this game for more than a year, we discovered some cool tips and tricks that guarantee a correct guess at least by the sixth chance. Rarely we get beaten by not being able to guess the word in six attempts. Today (20 JUL 2022) is such a rare day and I’m very sad!
Four letters were known to me by the time we reached the word ‘REVET’ on the third row. But I couldn’t get to the answer ‘TRITE’ even after three more guesses! Sad…
In an act of vengeance, I would like to give out our secret tips to the public so that more people can beat the ‘Wordle’ game! I will be showing our solutioning process by looking at the past 10 days of ‘Wordle’s in this blog post.
First Things First: How to Play ‘Wordle?’
‘Wordle’ is a very interesting five-letter word guessing game that can be played by accessing this link in our browser. We have six chances to guess the right word. Based on our computer/system time, a new word game drops exactly at midnight.
There are so many resources in the web that teaches how to play this simple game. If you don’t know the game, please do a Google or YouTube search and you will find a ton of explainers. Following are the official version of rules found in the ‘Help’ section of ‘Wordle’ website.
The Secret Tips and Tricks
- First, we have to figure out the vowels appearing in the mystery word for the day.
Two chances out of six are needed to enter the words ‘ADIEU’ and ‘YOLKS’ containing all the vowels (A, E, I, O, U).
- If the vowel ‘A’ appears, we can check for the possible repetition of ‘A’ in the mystery word by entering ‘MACAW’ or ‘APART’ as the third try.
- If the vowel ‘E’ appears, we can check for repetition of ‘E’ with the word ‘REVET’ or ‘SHEEP.’
- If the vowel ‘I’ appears, we can check for the vowel repetition with the word ‘MINIM’ or ‘ICING.’
- If the vowel ‘O’ appears, we can check for the vowel repetition with the word ‘ROBOT’ or ‘PHOTO’
- If the vowel ‘U’ appears, we can check for the vowel repetition with the word ‘USURP’ or ‘MUCUS.’
- If the letter ‘Y’ appears, we can check for the letter repetition with the word ‘PYGMY’ or ‘GYPSY.’
- To find more letters to identify the word, use the vowels already identified and go for two letter combinations like ‘BL,’ ‘CH,’ ‘CK,’ ‘CL,’ ‘DG,’ ‘GL,’ ‘GR,’ ‘PH,’ ‘PL,’ ‘TH,’ ‘TR’…
Let’s look at the past 10 days of ‘Wordle’s to see how the above tips are applied.
‘Wordle’ Game #395
‘GRAPH’ was a guess from me after the standard vowel repeat word ‘MACAW.’ But it helped me to narrow down the answer — ‘ANGRY.’
‘Wordle’ Game #394
The letters ‘O,’ ‘L,’ ‘K’ reminded me of ‘CLOCK’ and it really helped to me get to the answer ‘FLOCK.’
‘Wordle’ Game #393
This was fairly simple as all the five letters of ‘WACKY’ were identified by our vowel repeat word ‘MACAW’ as the third try.
‘Wordle’ Game #392
Another simple game, getting to ‘ROOMY’ was not at all difficult after our vowel repeat word ‘ROBOT.’
‘Wordle’ Game #391
This was tricky. I couldn’t guess any five letter word with ‘D’ and two ‘E’s. So I just tried ‘DANCE’ and got the ending ‘E’ position confirmed. This led me to the four letter word ‘EDGE’ that ultimately led to the answer: ‘WEDGE.’ Phew!
‘Wordle’ Game #390
This was fairly simple as all the five letters of ‘LIVER’ are identified by the vowel repeat word ‘REVET.’
‘Wordle’ Game #389
Another tricky one. ‘PLANT’ was a lucky guess, but the answer ‘BLAND’ was still two words away. Phew!
‘Wordle’ Game #388
After getting only to an ‘I’ and an ‘N,’ I luckily guessed ‘NINTH.’ Then ‘NIGHT’ dawned on me?!
‘Wordle’ Game #387
Another simple game, getting to ‘MADAM’ was not at all difficult after our vowel repeat word ‘MACAW.’
‘Wordle’ Game #386
It still amazes me that I guessed ‘DERTH’ instead of the answer and the more common word ‘BERTH!’ The occurrence of letters ‘R,’ ‘E,’ and ‘T’ in our vowel repeat word ‘REVET’ finally led me there.
So, that’s it! The ‘Wordle’ game is very addictive and if I come to any more ‘secret tips,’ I will update this article. Happy ‘Wordl’ing!
Wow! That’s so cool. Thank you for the tips!!!
🙂 This game helps us to learn a lot of new words. Highly recommended to play every day…
